The #cantfly series of watercolour paintings was inspired after a long admission in hospital, and the challenges faced after discharge.  Each depicts a challenge to re-engage with society, and the fears within that – although you have wings – you will forever be tethered to the ground.

The second in the #cantfly series, “Pinned down” was painted after “If I could only fly”.

For me, this person is pinned down by expectations, by assumptions, by the innate desire to do, to act, to “be”.  The wings show movement and flight, but the position of the body shows a feeling of being stuck or frozen.  I feel this is one of my more evocative works.
